True heroes.... - Submitted: Jul 08, 2009 03:50 PM - From IP Address: Mods Only #1

its sad that so many people idolize whats his name, and not the true heroes that have changed world....

My heroe is the man who stood infront of the tank in Tiananmen Square in 1989...No one knows his name, or what happened to him. Or the women who died in the prostests in Iran....these are the heroes that truely change the world....

I know who he brought so many products to our home whether they worked or not.....I will miss Bill Mays

But on a serious note yes there are thousands of people who die everyday. Where is the Memorial thread for the men & women in our arm forces that have left us, the people who lost there lives needlessly at the hands of others. While more memorial threads aren't really needed if you're gonna make them how about making one for them too.

Thats it exactly-so many should be remembered and thanked...

The man in Tiananmen Square-no one knows his name-he was just a guy who had more courage than I can imagine....He was never identified, and is assumed to have been taken into custody by the Govt. and god only knows what happened him....For those that are old enough and remember watching that-he changed the world-one man-

True Heros are normal common people who in times of need stand up and do what those around them won't or can't do or say. I remember the day I learned what a true hero was it was as I sat at my aunt's kitchen table listening to my cousin on the phone talking about the planes that had hit the world trade center. See my cousin was on the phone with my aunt as the planes hit, one of them hitting just two floors above his office. We thought because it hit above him that he would evalcuate and be fine. It never entered our minds that he would never come home but he was retired Marine that had to help out those that he could. I can't say he did anything more than follow the example that his father and mine set for they had both been firefighters who ran into burning buildings. He was helping at our last moments of talking to him. He was doing what our family always did. He was stepping up to help. When the building came down my heart went to my throat and I knew he was no more. I sat there at the table and could do nothing more than cry and stare at the tv. I never claim that I have heros in my family but I do know the hurt of losing someone who stood up.
I hope many more give you stories of true people and not someone who took more money from us than he ever gave back....

Sniper, as most of you know was my true hero. He served his country in Vietnam...finished college and got his Mechanical Engineering degree...he was a journeyman millwright and welder and built custom hotrods for people all over the world. People that were handicapped and could not drive a normal car. He custom built the cars so that they had hand controls and could be driven by paraplegics..and he built them at cost. The last car he built, he gave away free to a Marine that lost his legs in Iraq. He gave it to him free of charge, the only stipulation was that he had to drive it in the Memorial Day Parade the next day. I never saw a bigger smile in my life as the one the soldier had that day in the parade and also the one on Sniper's face when he saw him drive by. He was an accomplished musician and had probably the best singing voice I have ever heard. He was the love of my life.. and my hero.

my hero, is/was Gunny Sgt Carlos Hathcock, he was a sniper in vietnam, nick named white feather, 98 confirmed kills, countless unconfirmed ones, saves countless lives and is the reason the military now has sniper schools. ive learned in previous threads over a yr ago that our sniper was friends with him. i hope they are both doing well now and swapping old stories of times past

i gained my first real life hero the day some guy my mom was seeing decided to marry her gaining another child in the process. this man took the child fishing. taught him to hunt and when we came home from school after being beat up, was told that if he came home crying again without trying to fight back, hed give him something to cry about. 18 years later, after this man passed away, the boy felt love for he knew this man, his dad was his hero.

i guess my other hero would have to be my grandfather, i grew up without a dad and me and my mom stayed at her parents, so i had my grandfather there. he always acted very tuff around me, very logical, never cried but yet never told me it wasnt ok to cry. He is a real jack of all trades, worked as a metal machinest for 40 yrs, did all our own house carpentry, plumbing and electrical, now is a machinest in a small gun manufacturing opperation. i learned all my hands on skills from him and how to think on a very logical lvl.

i remember one time we took a walk in our woods, and i cut my leg on some briar patches, i didnt notice i had. my grandfather looked over and said my leg was bleading, and i began to cry as if it really hurt (i was like 5). and my grandfather said "Stop crying, u werent crying before u seen the blood and blood dont hurt" , and poof, something in me clicked and i stoped crying right then, its like an emotional fog lifted and i could then on think more clearly. i'll never forget that walk for as long as i'll live.
