Question for all webmasters - Submitted: Jan 28, 2012 03:23 PM - From IP Address: Mods Only #1

We are currently looking into updating the available tools on the server, such as PHP. WIth this update, many aspects of a website can break, have issues, or just stop working.

How many of you want to see this update, what concerns do you have, and what aspects would you like to see updated? We want to make sure you all have the tools you need to succeed with your websites so this feedback will be looked at and announcements and procedures updated accordingly.

For me, I would need to update all of my wordpress sites to the current versions, and make sure before the update i have full database back ups.

I would want this update mostly to be able to update to the newest version of wordpress.
In my point of view it is a security risk to stay on this old version of php that contains issues.

I am running wordpress 3.1.3 on debian 6 with Apache/2.2.16 (Debian) and PHP Version 5.3.3-7 in a test environment that works perfectly together.
If it was me doing the upgrade i would make a virtual test environment and finally move over the sites and tell everyone that has hosting that this date we are going to do the switch and bring it live with the old system still untouched so in worst case scenario there is a easy way to go back to the old system.

I already have database and file backup on everything since i always do all updates to my sites off site in my test system so i always have full backups.

Very much agree with TheOne...

Whatever can be done to make wordpress be an easy 1 click install too- I think will make RUDE hosting take off - because there would be no excuse for anyone not to have a website here - either promo site - or member site.

Although, I think people need to respect if they have a free hosted site on RUDE - they should actually promote RUDE over all other sites they might be working on... so at least have RUDE on each page somewhere - imo

But, yes any upgrade to make RUDE hosting more functional and up to speed with pay host providers - would be a great benefit.

I think it would create a secondary market for designers and that too I think RUDE should look into - making the connection between producers who need websites, and (web/ap)designer who want to create sites/pages/promos/editing of content/etc... and get a % off making that connection - it would be a win/win/win/ situation.
