first of all: he was never going to BE prosocuted. he did what he was legally obligated to do. he told school officials. he was MORALLY obligated to do more, i agree, but at those times nothing was done like that. remember how much we have changed. we are talking about the mid 70's here. so please get facts straight befor you disparage a man's entire career and a disquished schools athletic dept. (sorry for spelling. i suck at it.)
I love PENN STATE football. and I LOVE JOE PA. it is sad to have heard this news today. just so sad. i actually cried. i wanted my son's to play under him. RIP Joe Paterno

Yeah its always sad when an icon dies... but this sure saved a bunch of money... I would be glad that this situation finally stopped last year - because I'd never want my son to be under the pressure of college, a scholarship and a perv assistant coach who abuses his position while others know but don't do anything because after all - the students are all adults at 18 and college age.... sadly the summer camp kids were not... but they still just made inside jokes about the abuse... and never made any changes or took precautions just in case - had an assistant coach, in high school, who always watched the showers for "horseplay" or to "check" if everyone showered after class - tended not to shower after gym class after that.... nope don't want my kid in that environment... but RIP Joe.

You and I will have to agree to disagree. This was brought to his attention 8 years ago. He did nothing. On a charge like that you don't stop with just the trustees. That said accuser also got a job on the coaching staff didn't do much for his culpability.
No one will take away from what he accomplished on the field, but we are ultimately judged on the entire body of work. Can a priest be excused of molestation because he says a really good mass?

I disagree with you Sasha, the facts are pretty plain here...Children were molested he knew of it and turned his head, regardless of what the year was, we didn't allow that in the 70's no more than we do today, in fact it would be less tolerated, have you ever seen a child that was molested shortly after it happened? I have & its one of the worse things that I have seen.. Would you want your son playing under the man?? If you turn your head to a crime what does that make you? Sorry but I am a huge defender when it come to children & those that can't protect their self....
I came back to add that I don't mean for this to sound like a hate message for you, that was not my intent to do so....I don't get involved with discussions on the boards but this one really touched me....I still think you are as sexy woman, winks

One of my two adopted siblings was. It was nothing we couldn't overcome together but it took a few years of therapy and it did create a few very uncomfortable moments along the way.

I fully agree. My daughters had a brother we couldn't adopt because of his issues. He had heavy duty issues which he is still dealing with as an adult some 20 years later.

As a police officer I was part of an incest investigation concerning 3 children the youngest was just 2 years old - it sickened me and I will never forget it till I die.
