sustainable sauces of energy, why build more nuclear power-stations that are dangerous and take many years to decommission. Wind and light is freely available and very cheep, so why do we not use it? oww my gosh edited due to horrific spelling ......

yea leia i agree but the more people that use these methods the price will come down....ill add more later I'm in a wee bit of a rush at the mo ..
right iv thought about this allot just because I'm getting pissed off with the rising cost of gas and electricity, it feels like every other day I'm putting money on the electric and gas.
I saw a solar panel you can buy in B&Q for £3000 and it only heats up your water, but if I'm going to go to the trouble to install a solar panel i want one that will supply all of my electricity. i have no idea why the government is backing nuclear energy over wind and solar. i spend on average £2000 on electricity/gas so it makes good sense to get one, you start saving money within 3 years ..

I think it's going to take a mixed approach.
Rudy is right about wind power -- to power a city, you need acres and acres of windmills. Few communities want to go that way.
Solar is still very expensive. While advances in technology are making it more efficient and more affordable, this is still a young industry. And, unless you own your home, it's pretty much impossible to get in on this on any large scale.
I'm a pretty ardent tree-huggin' type, and I have actually warmed towards nuclear. We do it wrong in the US, basically. There are methods being developed that are safer, produce less waste, and create more power. If you google around a bit, you'll find the article Wired magazine ran on the subject a couple years back.

Wind ...Solar very good sources..so is nuclear..except for disposing of the waste.. We have enough iol in the USA but we need to get it out of the ground and out of the shale too..wind,solar and nuclear would supliment it even more...We also must develop ways of making batteries without the lead, nickel and cadium which are also hard to dispose of.... I use a lot of solar power in my communications business...repeater sites on mountains don't always have land power running up to them....My LPFM radio station transmitter is also solar and battery run too...
tell Teddy Kennedy to get off his drunken high horse and allow the wind farm on Nantuket!
And I get a D minus for spelling too!

Tassie is hydro powered, which has enviro pros and cons, but at least the power is green.
I often wondered on the viability of sending nuclear waster into the sun rather than dumping it.

We can't keep relying on the Russians to supply our power, they've switched it off once already and we need to be independent,so BUILD as many Nuclear plants as we think we might need

In fact yes it would burn up..wouldn't hurt anything out in space...the sun generates and sends more radiation toward earth all the time...Higher doses..
check spaceweather.com or nasa.gov for more info.
I do sell some solar power systems as part of my Communications business...any questions just email me here on Rude...I won't sell these systems here on the Rude site so Mr Moderator don't worry.
I can answer questions here..Its all basic...

It can be...systems are easier than you think to set up.
I sold a system to someone who powers their whole house (2000 sq ft) with it.
They own a hybred car and burn wood for heat and use solar water heating...
Their home is on a mountain top and is less than 10 years old...He is a private pilot and is building a powered Glider that will use used veggie oil for fuel...
The power is to get the glider to altitude, shut it down and the prop auto folds into the nose....now thats cool...I sold him his aviation radios too.

The type of solar pannel used in water heating differs from the type used in the production of electricity....go for the hot water system first for your water heating needs and heating...let me know when you are ready for the electricity options.

I'm a long way off affording solar power in my home but i do hope to get it one day, my main motivation is saving money in the future, the cost of everything is getting ridiculous.
