Not a joke... get rid of unions... and it might take longer for this to happen... wasn't this the very same day Obama was praising his success of job creation - remove the fake numbers of census workers and IRS agents/auditors... numbers don't look so good for employment or unemployment...

"Polaris to close Osceola plant

By The Associated Press

Posted: May 20, 2010 |(47) Comments

Osceola - Polaris Industries Inc. says it will shut down it plant in the western Wisconsin city of Osceola.

KARE-TV reports that police were outside the plant when officials announced the closure Thursday.

The Medina, Minn.-based maker of snowmobiles, ATVs and Victory motorcycles says it's moving many of the operations to a new facility in the Monterrey-Saltillo area of Mexico.

Polaris will continue to make snowmobiles in Roseau, Minn., and motorcycles in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Some operations will be moved to Roseau and Spirit Lake.

Polaris also says it's negotiating to sell some of its parts manufacturing processes and equipment in Osceola to suppliers who'd continue making components there.

Polaris is one of Polk County's largest employers with several hundred positions.

Gov. Jim Doyle issued a statement late Thursday saying the decision was "difficult to accept" and that the state would provide resources necessary to help the community with services and assistance to workers and their families. He also said the state would pursue new possibilities for the facility and "do everything possible to keep jobs in Osceola."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You really believe they will make parts that far north and pay the union wage price and the shipping for just in time production... Think Arizona has a new op. here... maybe new Mex. or Texas even but no chance for Cali...those liberals would screw it up ;-}}}

It might take longer to happen? This is really greed , pure and simple .... even if the plant workers were making eight dollars an hour greed on the part of the owners would send them scampering off to where they can get it done for five dollars an hour....americans wiill always sell out other americans if there is profit in it .

So let the South Koreans decide what they want to do.

Remember the Gulf of Tonkin Incident when supposedly a North Vietnamese speed boat fired on an American War Ship?

Congress gave the go ahead for an unlimited war with North Vietnam, a former ally in WW II I might add. Looking back on that what a brilliant decision that was, again history repeating itself. It was the same racist attitude that got us in trouble in the Korean War.

How could the slant eyed. laundry men (a term used by General MacArthur) North Koreans and Chinese defeat the American military machine?

By putting too much starch in their skivvies ?

ok you are probably right about this... but have you never heard a person on unemployment and welfare state.. they get more in benefits than work a min. wage job...

Key phrase if you work hard... and Ag jobs are not 8 hour days they are get it done as fast as you can - time is of the essence and the cost to the employer is not only the pay, it's the benefits and taxes too.. Ag jobs are not in an air conditioned Micky D's... they are hot and heavy back bending jobs... Don't know when people will think "it's worth it". Right now it seems they don't.

No benefits to be paid...it is or was considered seasonal work and ag work had ,at one time a different set of rules. maybe they still do, not sure. And the workers pay state and federal taxes. Of course you work fast as you can ... there are supply contracts to be met and if I pick 70 bushels of lemons and you pick 60 in the same amt. of time (and they usually were 8 hr. days) we put in the same amt. of time but my hourly wage will be more because I'm willing to go the extra mile.... (it's mostly technique ...look where you're going to pick next, not where your hands are now )...and just move your ass ... no lollygagging

it pays more to be unemployed... and they just extend the benefits if you whine a bit about not voting for them...

I got to give a Demo credit... One did try to add an amendment to this next bit of inept regulation....

His defeated amendment was to try to limit the amount of interest a credit card company can charge - based on their home state regulations limits...

Good try - you'd think this would have been a main point in the credit card reform act - if it was really an act to help people and not the banks.

The Demo's effort was lacking because it was not well thought out - unless the goal was to get credit card companies to move to states where the laws allow higher rates... rather than protect the people from usury rates of interest - which by law credit card companies can charge now... while no one else can be bound by a contract with interest rates that high.

Seems like Government is playing the system to make rules apply for some and against others... seems a bit wrong... a bit corrupt....

Picking or harvesting is piece work. You have a minimum to pick (your quota) , the money depending on what you're harvesting, to meet that states minimum wage . If you work hard you can maybe double what the states minimum is for an 8 hour day.

Volcano CO2 Output Could Be 150-300,000 Tons Daily
Posted on: Tuesday, 20 April 2010, 06:40 CDT

Experts said on Monday that the volcano in Iceland is emitting 150,000 to 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per day, a figure comparable to emissions released from a small industrial nation.

The estimation is based on gas composition of an earlier eruption on a volcano adjacent to the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. If figures are correct, the CO2 released by this volcano would be 150,000 tons per day, Colin Macpherson, an Earth scientist at Britain's University of Durham, said in an email to the AFP news agency.

Patrick Allard of the Paris Institute for Global Physics (IPGP) said the amount could be as high as 300,000 tons per day.

Both experts added that these were only approximate estimates.

On a country-by-country basis, the emissions from the volcano would be placed 47th to 75th in the world table of emitters if based on a yearlong output. The data was compiled by the World Resources Institute (WRI), which tracks environmental and sustainable development.

Being ranked 47th would place it above many other countries including Austria, Belarus, Portugal, Ireland, Finland, Bulgaria, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland. The list compiled is based on 2005 data.

Experts said that the volcano is producing just a tiny amount of global emissions of greenhouse gases. Total emissions in 2005 were more than 36 thousand million tons measured in CO2, according to the WRI index.

Many believe that the eruption is good for climate change as it has grounded carbon-emitting jetliners. But specialists with the European Environment Agency say that emissions from the aviation sector in the 27 nations of the European Union pump out around 440,000 tons per day.

Sources say that not much is saved by the volcanic eruption. Not all airports in Europe are closed, and those that are, passengers are using other transportation methods that pump out CO2. And many flights in, to and from Europe are only being deferred until the crisis is over.

Whether the emissions occur now or three weeks from now does not change things fundamentally, Herve Le Treut, a French climatologist, told AFP.

Another point is that these emissions are of long duration. CO2 is dangerous because it stays in the atmosphere for about a hundred years. Its short-term effect is not the big problem.
