It's cold.
Where did the warmth go?
Who put water on the fire?
The embers still glow but they need fanning to burn brightly once again.
Why are the flames hesitant?
Why don't they leap up and dance as they did?
Aren't they strong enough on their own?
Do they need fanning?
Weren't they uncontrollable just moments ago?
Are they being suffocated or are they just fearful of the night, the unknown?
Don't they realize that by buring brightly again, they will dispel the darkness,
Strip away the night.
By springing forth they can expose the unknown, make it familiar, safe.
If left alone, will they extinguish themselves or be brought forth
By a passing breeze, a divine wind?
I someone tries to lend assistance, will the fire be driven too harshly,
Only to burn brightly for a moment, then die?
Then, what will have been gained?
A moment's warmth traded for eternal darkness.
Still, the embers glow.
That is a hopeful sign.
