The Gift

And so it was....
1:45AM on November 17, 2009

"Undress yourself", He ordered, a warm voice, overlaid with the cold of command. she loved that voice, loved the way it caressed her ears. It always made her weak, the soft heat building within her, making her eager to obey.

Even so, she hesitated, standing on the carpeted floor, a floor light shining in her eyes, blocking out all sight of the cozy bedroom she knew she was standing in. She always hated this part; revealing the many flaws of her body to His eyes. Kind eyes, stern eyes, they had never judged before ... but still that fear stirred within her.

she wanted to refuse, feeling vulnerable. She wanted to, but then there was His voice. His voice, now she had to obey.

Slowly, she started to unbutton her blouse, setting her jaw, removing herself from the room. It would be over soon, and the play would resume, and she would lose herself in her submission yet again.

"Stop."

"Stop, Master?" she questioned in suprise. she could not see Him where He sat and she wanted to. Had her slowness displeased Him?

Hands reached around from behind her ... dry, warm hands ... which had caused her both pleasure and pain. This time, the hands held her in a warm embrace. The humanness and solidity of the hands almost startled her and brought her partially up from the depths of her submissive haze.

she could feel His chin rubbing behind her ear. His tongue slowly and gently traced the outer edge of her ear lobe and she involuntarily shivered. Damn the weak knees that made standing require concentration. She could feel Him thinking, almost touch the silence as He stood there with His arms around her.

"you don't like to undress for Me," He said, not a question, no ounce of doubt in His voice. The low rumble of His voice raised the hair on the back of her neck, making it hard to think. It stole her voice away and she nodded her head mutely.

"you are afraid of what I will see," He continued. "You are afraid that I will be unhappy or that I will look away in disgust ... you don't like your thighs, you don't like your stomach ... you hear in your head a thousand reasons to flinch and draw away from My sight." her head swam, she needed air ... but the warm caress of His voice on the back of her neck had destroyed any ability she had to deny Him, to raise a defense. It was all true and she nodded again.

"you are My pet," He told her. He held her body loosely, and slowly moved to face her squarely. she looked at His eyes curiously, ashamed that He knew her fears so well.

His hand snaked up her back into her hair and took a tight hold. His grip forced her head back so that she had no choice but to continue to look into His eyes.

He held her that way for a long moment ... longer ... waiting for that softening of her eyes that to Him signaled her yielding to His will.

"Tonight MY pet," He stressed the word, yet immovably, "I want that fear from you. you will give Me that fear."

she couldn't nod, so finally she forced her dazed mind to make her lips move, "Yes Master," she whispered.

"Remove your blouse," He ordered stepping back. her fingers fumbled at the top button, but the rest came quickly. He stared at her avidly, and she started to pull the blouse down.

my bra is old, i can't believe i wore this ratty thing, she thought.

Instantly He engulfed her mouth with a kiss, heavy, demanding and arousing, leaving her nothing but a need for air. "That fear is Mine," He whispered, when finally it ended. "you don't have it any more. Take off your blouse now pet."

Dazed, she shed her blouse and stood before Him in her bra.

Damned saggy tits, i should work out more, she thought reflectively.

Again, the kiss, His tongue taking her mouth, taking the thought away.

"And that fear is also Mine," He informed her. "Go on ..."

The bra came off under trembling fingers and she tried to hide the thoughts that flitted into her head.

i have too many moles.

He knew, He saw it in her eyes, and drank once again from her lips, draining the thought, draining the ability to think.

Again and again, He kissed her as she unveiled. He kissed her lips, He kissed the mole on her neck, He kissed her stretch marks ... every part she felt ashamed of, cherishing it, insistent that she also cherish it with Him.

She yielded again and again, He knew her too well, knew when she was hiding, and knew how to pluck the fears from her mind.

Long before her clothes were all removed, her knees gave way and she finished undressing while sitting on the edge of the bed. He moved as she undressed, touching her, His loving eyes accepting her body as it was.

When she was at last naked, He held her for a long time in His arms.

"you are Mine, pet," He told her, His voice running through her and into her. "Mine are all the parts of you, every piece, every inch."

"I don't want your fear to take your body away from Me, to separate us, even for a moment. Not a single part of you, ever. Put your clothes on and we'll do this again and again and again ... and I will do this tonight and for as long as it takes, until you feel no fear of My judgement and are only eager to share every bit of your body with Me."

And so it was....

Total Power Exchange
4:41AM on June 28, 2008

Can you provide a definition of TPE?
It is of course next to impossible to provide exact definitions for any relationship, since relationships revolve around individual people, individual needs and individual circumstances.

Having said that, TPE relationships do have certain common denominators.

First of all, in a TPE relationship the slave is subdued (as opposed to submissive in all other forms of BDSM-based relationships). The slave is considered to be the property of the Dominant and as such will find her place among the Dominant's other properties: the house, the pets, the furniture, etc.

Another common denominator is in the word total. Just as one cannot be "a bit pregnant" or only caucasian on Wednesdays and Fridays, the owner/slave relationship is permanent, all-encompassing, non-negotiable and final.

The third important common denominator is in the decision making. The slave has had the option to either enter or not enter the TPE relationship. After that she has one decision left, which is to leave the entire relationship (something that over time may become increasingly difficult). Other than that, all decisions are left to the owner who, usually for practical reasons, will either temporarily or permanently delegate certain decisions to the slave. This is usually determined by the practicalities of every day life.

Isn't TPE the same as a 24/7 BDSM relationship?
No, there are very fundamental differences. A 24/7 BDSM relationship is a relationship where BDSM plays a role most of the time, maybe even all the time and within pre-negotiated boundaries. In a TPE relationship the power dynamics are at the very root of the relationship as well as a prerequisite for the relationship. Even if TPE partners do not live together, their relationship is based on the principle that in ALL matters (unless specifically Excluded) the dominant partner has the final say.

Does TPE mean the Dominant has a final say in everything?

TPE means the Dominant Can have the final say in everything. That does not necessarily mean he will always and in anything exercise this. Usually what it comes down to is that the submissive will make decisions in the spirit of the Dominant (in other words she will do as he will expect her to do).
In a TPE-relationship the concept of negotiation (as opposed to all other BDSM-based relationships) does not exist. In most TPE relationships the slave will have the option to propose certain things, but whether or not such proposals will be followed is entirely up to the owner.

Doesn't the submissive make any decisions at all?
Yes, she has made one: to be a slave. That is where the decision making started and ended. Some TPE-couples, for practical reasons, may exclude specific areas, such as custody over children, the submissive's work, etcetera. In every day life a TPE submissive will of course make decisions, but always in the sense that she will do what the Dominant partner expects her to do (or would expect her to do).

What about safe, sane and consensual?

A choice to enter into TPE is not made overnight, but usually after a long and careful process which - in general - takes quite some time. That goes for both partners of course. That choice is usually made after a long - and quite often difficult - process of thought, communication and real life experiences. As such, that choice is probably one of the most well thought out decisions in the BDSM-community, hence very sane and consensual. And of course TPE partners are just as safety aware as any other responsible BDSM couple. However, once that decision is made, things change dramatically in the sense that such concepts as safewords or negotiation will cease to exist.

TPE couples sometimes - especially in the early stages of the relationship - will incorporate such things as "trial periods", which allow for testing and building practical experience.

Yes, but what about the rights of the sub and her/his well being?
TPE dominants are among the most responsible people in the BDSM-community. Since they are very aware of the gravity of their specific relationship (and the potential risks and dangers), they are probably more consciously aware of the well being of their slave. Besides, what's the point in doing any damage to the one you love? In a TPE relationship the slave can of course bring up her own ideas and preferences. Whether or not these will be implemented however, is the sole decision of the Dominant partner.

A TPE slave is usually responsible for the well being of the Dominant's property and that includes the slave him/herself. Hence the slave will be required to provide the owner with any and all information that relates to her health, well being and physical and emotional safety. Again, the way in which such information is being dealt with is entirely up to the owner. In other words: the slave will feed the owner with information, the owner will provide solutions, decisions and measures. This situation is best compared to a work environment: employees provide information (regardless their position), the buck however stops at the boss' desk.

Does the Dominant decide about what she wears and eats?
If you mean the micro management type of decisions such as worrying every morning about what she wears, the answer is no. TPE is NOT about micro management. On a more general level however, the TPE dominant will provide a set of guidelines that will form a point of reference for his submissive partner.

To provide a few examples: the TPE owner will usually want his property to maintain a healthy diet (and may set general guidelines in that area), but will not worry over the number of sandwiches or whether these are peanut butter and jelly or ham and cheese. Most TPE owners will set general guidelines about the slave's presentation, but instead of - for example - setting a rule about what clothes she should wear, garments that are not to the owner's liking will simply not be available.

What is the objective of a Total Power Exchange Relationship?
Total Power Exchange does have only one objective. That is to create a situation where there is little or no way back for the submissive partner, or at least not without severe - social, economical and of course emotional - consequences. In other words, create a situation that comes as close to real slavery as realistically possible. As a result, the slave in a TPE situation loses much if not all control over his or her own life, but that is NOT a goal as such, it is a result of trying to achieve the objective. De facto the slave is just as "locked in" as the Dominant partner is. Although the Dominant may seem to be the one in total control, no sane and caring human being will leave the partner he or she has joined in such an amazing journey totally helpless and walk away.

Is there a legal basis (contract) for TPE?
One of the most frequently asked questions - and the topic of discussions on TPE - is whether or not the slave can be legally locked in. The answer is no, but - depending on the country you are in - there are legal/economical constructions that come very close. But again, this is not the objective and neither the owner or the slave in a real TPE relationship will feel the need to even try and do that.
Contracts or usually not an issue for Total Power Exchange couples since they feel they do not need one, and actually the situation usually does not require one either. Some TPE couples use contracts as points of reference for evaluation.

Isn't TPE dangerous to the slave?
The first and foremost thing to remember is that once a TPE situation is in place (a process that in itself will often take many years) there is indeed no way back and the slave is very likely to loose control over assets, income, belongings and in general over her life. As much as they may be appealing to some, this is something to be very aware of before entering into anything that comes remotely close to a Total Power Exchange situation. So yes, there is a fair amount of danger to those, that jump into a TPE situation feet first.

The other important thing to consider is that there will eventually be a situation where the slave loses alternatives and that the owner increasingly gains a position where he or she can ask anything and getting out is not or hardly an option. It is only wise to consider the possibility that this opens the door to possible (power) abuse and that a TPE situation should be avoided at all times if there is even the slightest doubt about the motivation of either of the partners involved. Unresolved traumas, low self esteem and self confidence, the inability to make independent decisions before entering into TPE, oversized egos and an over concentration on control issues are all warning signals that should make it clear that the partner(s) are not fit for a TPE-situation.

Isn't it all just a fantasy?
To many, yes it is and a full TPE situation is something that can only be accomplished after many, many years at best and - as said - predominantly is a journey that is taken step by careful step by couples that have entered into it.
TPE is one of the most discussed (and fantasized about) items in the BDSM-community, especially on the Internet. A TPE-relationship is real life and a though road. Online relationships by definition cannot be TPE, neither can any relationship where there is (even only one) but, if or possibility for negotiation.

Is it wise to use mentors when entering into TPE?

Absolutely and preferable a mentor couple with TPE-experience. In fact, you probably need a network of highly experienced and critical people. Having an external source of information and evaluation, people that are critical enough to not only support you but also warn you when applicable can be priceless when it comes to avoiding mistakes or ending up in a situation that you actually did not want when you started. It may also very helpful to have a third party that can evaluate your own motives.

The Gift
8:55AM on April 19, 2008

The Giver was alone, and the Gift unused: the Giver felt lonely, and sought to find someone worthy of the Gift.

The Rebel came along and saw the Gift the Giver possessed, and desired the Gift for himself. Rather than ask the Giver for the Gift, or ask what the Giver wanted for the Gift, the Rebel decided that social rules did not apply to him, and simply said "Give me the gift."

The Giver knew that the Gift was fragile and would be destroyed if mistreated, and did not trust the Rebel; for how many of those who are impolite are also delicate? But the Giver did not wish to offend, and so said to the Rebel "I am sorry, but this Gift is for someone else."

The Rebel grew angry and blustered "But I deserve the Gift. I am special and I deserve that things be given to me."

The Giver, glad to have trusted her first instinct, merely repeated: "I am sorry, but this Gift is for someone else." And the Rebel, still complaining, went his way.

The Giver sat under a willow tree, contemplating the Gift and wondering about the qualities needed to really appreciate the Gift; as she was sitting there the sun and the breeze and the sound of the creek below lulled her into a doze.

The Thief, who had overheard the Rebel and the Giver, was waiting for just this moment. Dashing out from behind a nearby bush, he made a grab for the Gift; grasping it he started to run away. However, the Giver was awakened by this and reached out to stop the Thief.

"Give that back!" cried the Giver. "It is not yours! You have no right!" So saying, she reached out, trying to retrieve the Gift.

The Thief said "I do not care if it was not mine, I have possession of it so it is now my property." And so saying, he pulled again at the Gift, hoping to wrench it from the Giver.

In the ensuing struggle, the Gift was fouled, battered, and broken. The Thief, deciding he did not want a damaged Gift, finally let go and said "You keep it; it is now worthless."

The Giver cried at the state of the Gift, which she had hoped to find someone worthy of; it was dirty, pieces were missing and scattered in the grass around her, and the intact parts were bent and dented. She began to believe the Thief's assessment of the Gift: perhaps it no longer mattered who it belonged to, worthless as it was.

But then she noticed that her tears made clean streaks on the Gift as they fell, and she thought that perhaps if some of it could be cleaned, all of it could; perhaps she could make her Gift have worth once again. She took the Gift and its broken pieces to the creek, where she began to wash them.

The Gift was easy to clean, but in trying to wash the pieces that had been broken from it, the Giver lost one. She began to lose hope again. Yet she was still determined to try to repair the Gift.

Hours passed as she fit pieces back together where they would stay. Some pieces she could not make stay, however. From behind her, a voice: "Perhaps this Glue could help you mend your Gift". She turned to see a Stranger, holding a small tube of Glue. She took the Glue and thanked the Stranger, then finished repairing her Gift with the Stranger'sGlue.

When she turned to give the Glue back to the Stranger, he was gone. She thought to herself that this Stranger had thought her Gift worthy enough to donate his Glue, and not even demand payment, nor even ask for the Glue to be returned. Perhaps her Gift had worth after all.

And as she sat and contemplated her Gift, she realized that the Stranger was the type of person who would neither ask nor demand a Gift, nor would he take, but rather he would give. And she thought to herself that the Stranger was a Giver too. And who better to appreciate a Gift but a Giver?

So she sought out the Stranger, and when she found him, she tried to return the Glue to him. He thanked her, but said that she should keep the Glue, in case the Gift should break again.

And the Giver said "In that case, you should accept the Glue, for I wish to give the Gift to you." And so saying, she placed the Gift in the Stranger's hands.

The Stranger looked at the Gift, and said "This is too precious; I do not know if I can take care of this Gift." The Giver said "I believe that you can, and I will stay with you and help you care for the Gift when you falter."
