We have come a long way baby or have we?

I just watched the history channels old west technology on brothels. In the days before the church and law came to town women had the choice of making 25 bucks a week doing wash working 12 hour days or making 50 bucks a night working 6 hours on their backs. When the Society ladies were looking for donation they knocked on the sporting girls doors before they knocked on the door of the woman doing the "honest" work. Sporting ladies usually saw about 80 clients a day and had to keep an oil cloth on the bottom third of the bed to protect the sheets from the gents boots, because a cowboy never took his boots off.
Today it is much the same. "Honest" woman are working their asses off, barely getting ahead. They struggle and bring home pay but many of them still qualify for free school lunches. They miss their kids growing up because of an 8 hour day, often overtime and an hour commute mean most are home only long enough to sign permission slips and tuck their kids in.
Sporting ladies,those who stay away from the drugs, can usually support their family, work shorter hours and afford to give to worthy causes.
How have we come a long way? Sporting girls today would never see 80 clients in one day, and we always make them take their boots off in the house.
